A school senior leader has been awarded a commendation for her work organising successful diversionary activities for young people in Immingham.
Oasis Academy operations manager Hannah Bown played a key role in the formation of the Fair Play Football session alongside Grimsby Town Foundation which has offered a positive alternative activity in the town.
More than 90 young people in Immingham are regularly supported by the scheme, which sees Grimsby Town Foundation coaches put on free sessions. The offering has expanded in Immingham to meet the demand.
The scheme – which has helped to reduce anti-social behaviour in the town – also includes education and advice on social issues such as weapon-related violence and sex education. A community foodbank has also been created around the sessions.
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Leo Hammond visited Oasis Academy to present Hannah with her commendation.
She said: “It’s great to be recognised but first and foremost it’s about the children. We do it to give them a purpose as well as something to do in an evening and something to make them believe in themselves.
“There’s been some fantastic achievements come from the programme and we’re really proud.”
The nomination for Hannah’s commendation included: “Hannah has shown outstanding dedication through her leadership of the Fair Play Football sessions.
“Hannah plans, organises, and runs the weekly session with professionalism and care. She manages high attendance calmly and ensures every child feels welcome and included. She consistently goes above expectations, arriving early, staying late, and adapting activities to meet the needs of the young people.”
