Commissioner Jonathan Evison visited the members of East Riding Community Foundation Trust to hand out a commendation for the group’s fantastic work in cohesion and empowering minority communities.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2026, ERCFT has spent a decade providing a safe and welcoming environment from the base in Brough as well as outreach work to benefit the entire community.
With many of the organisation’s leaders being medical professionals, individuals used their key worker status during the Covid-19 pandemic to deliver much-needed supplies to those in need.
ERCFT runs programmes focused on youth, education, wellbeing, mental health, environmental sustainability and empowerment.
Trustee Waqar Khan said: “The whole charity is being run by the volunteers – financially as well as the services that we provide.
“We are lucky that 90 per cent of the trustees are medical professionals and this is how we started serving the community.
“If someone has a speciality, they come to the organisation to deliver it to the full community.”
The reasons for the group’s nomination included: “ERCFT has been working as a shining beacon of hope within the region, making a significant and lasting contribution to the integration and empowerment of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.
“Through its inclusive, community-led approach, ERCFT has played a vital role in supporting individuals and families to overcome barriers to participation, ensuring that diverse communities feel valued, represented, and fully engaged within the wider social fabric of the region.
“Its work has been instrumental in fostering understanding, trust, and collaboration between communities, helping to build a more cohesive and resilient society.”
