Anonymous reporting service Fearless has launched its biggest awareness campaign to date after teaming up with charity Charlie’s Promise to tackle knife crime.
A hard-hitting campaign video tells the tragic story of 17-year-old Charlie Cosser, who was fatally stabbed in 2023 with his parents – charity founders Martin and Tara – sharing their experience of the devasting impact of knife crime.
The story is used to highlight the difference even the smallest amount of information can make in preventing knife crime and potentially saving lives, with the message ‘if someone had shared what they knew, Charlie would still be here.’
Fearless is a platform created by Crimestoppers to urge young people to report any information on crime or potential illegal activity with total anonymity.
Research reveals that fear of retaliation remains a major barrier to reporting, with more than 40 per cent of young people saying concerns about their safety could prevent them from coming forward.
While only one in three young people are very likely to report knife crime directly to the police, more than half would do so through an anonymous service such as Fearless.
Details provided via Fearless have already helped to solve many crimes. Any information, however big or small, can be key in authorities taking action to make communities safer.
Fearless should not be used in an emergency, with a 999 call instead being the correct course of action.
