Latest Road Safety Measures Grant Scheme opened

ROAD SAFETY MEASURES GRANT SCHEME

Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside Jonathan Evison has committed £40,000 in his latest grant fund to support efforts to improve road safety across the region.

The Road Safety Measures (RSM) grant scheme is now open for applications from town and parish councils and non-profit organisations to secure funding for the purchase and installation of Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs).

The electric signs display a speed or message when triggered by vehicles travelling at excessive speeds and help to reduce speed plus create safer and cleaner roads.

Mr Evison said: “My office and I are determined to do all we can to support efforts to keep our roads safer. While we work closely on the issue with partners across policing, local authorities and various groups, we know how significant a concern speeding remains for our communities and how strong the determination is to keep streets safe.

“This grant fund is designed to allow communities to access devices that can act as a deterrent and help to bring peace of mind to residents and visitors.

“The public know best where problem areas are and this fund can equip community organisations with the tools to confront speeding issues.”

The RSM grant scheme can provide a maximum contribution of 50 per cent for the costs of the purchase and installation of a SID and/or the installation of a post where no suitable provision exists. This latest round of the grant scheme does not include funding for AutoSpeedWatch cameras.

It is expected that a maximum grant of £5,000 will be required by projects with remaining costs being met by match funding of at least 50 per cent.

Applicants must seek written approval from the relevant local authority for their project prior to submission. Projects should be completed by the end of March 2027.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday, September 28, 2026.
