Each year, residents across the Humber region share their views on crime, community safety and confidence in policing. The 2025 Police and Crime Plan Survey provide valuable insight into what matters most to communities and how these priorities are shifting over time. Last month we published the results of the Police and Crime plan survey, which can be found here.
We promised a weekly blog with a specific topic of the survey. In this second blog we look at how levels of confidence in Humberside Police differ across our communities.
Overall confidence in Humberside Police increases
This year’s survey results show that confidence in Humberside Police has increased when compared to last survey. Across the Humber region 66% of respondents said they were either ‘Very Confident’ (11%) or ‘Fairly Confident’ (55%).
However, it is important to acknowledge that the use of My Community Alert as a survey tool could have influenced the result. My Community Alert, is a communication platform used by Humberside Police, may have contributed to this upward trend as users are more likely to have a pre-existing interest in policing and a greater understanding of the work completed by Humberside Police.
How confidence varies across the region
Confidence differed across Local Authorities and geographic settings such as rural, urban, and coastal areas.
Local Authority Differences
Residents in East Riding and North-East Lincolnshire have higher levels of confidence, while residents in Hull and North Lincolnshire were less confident overall.
- East Riding: 67% Confident or Fairly Confident
- NE Lincs: 67% Confident or Fairly Confident
- Hull: 64% Confident or Fairly Confident
- North Lincs: 64% Confident or Fairly Confident
Rural, Urban and Coastal Differences
Geography also played a role in shaping public confidence:
- Smaller rural areas showed the highest confidence, at 70%
- Larger rural areas followed closely at 69%
- Urban areas reported the lowest confidence, with 63% feeling confident
- Coastal areas were comparable to the regional average at 66%
Deprivation and Confidence
Confidence also varied depending on levels of deprivation, as measured by the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). Generally, those living in areas with higher deprivation had a lower level of confidence; in contrast to those living in our least deprived areas, which had a higher level of confidence.
An increase in confidence in 2025 compared to 2024
The data suggests that residents have more confidence in Humberside Police in 2025 compared to 2024. This increase was seen across all Local Authorities:
- Humberside Police overall: a 13-percentage point increase
- Hull: a 19-percentage point increase
- North Lincs: a 14-percentage point increase
- NE Lincs: a 12-percentage point increase
- East Riding: a 10-percentage point increase.
What Policing Aspects Do Residents Trust the Most?
Respondents were asked about their confidence in specific aspects of policing. Areas of high confidence included that Humberside Police would treat them with respect and that Humberside Police operate with integrity, upholding high standards.
Areas in which confidence was lower included receiving regular updates after reporting an incident and visibility of local policing. This was most notable in urban and areas of higher deprivation.
Final Thoughts
The 2025 survey presents a positive picture of rising confidence in Humberside Police across the region. While confidence varies by geography, deprivation, and personal circumstance, the overall direction is positive. The survey also tells there is more work to do around increasing the visibility of policing, especially in urban and more deprived neighbours.
