Joanna Richardson has played a key role in ensuring the streets of Hornsea are safer – earning her a commendation from the Police and Crime Commissioner.
The Hornsea Town Council clerk has worked tirelessly to secure funding for CCTV systems which have provided Humberside Police with a vital tool in the prevention of crime in the area.
Multiple successful bids for funding have allowed for the expansion of the CCTV offering in the town with the Commissioner’s Community Safety Fund playing a key role.
She was visited by deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Leo Hammond to receive her commendation.
Joanna said: “It’s about community safety at the end of the day. The police have pushed for this and we’ve been able to install two systems so far, largely thanks to funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner.
“The police wanted extra coverage in certain areas, particularly coming in and out of town, so we worked with them to draw up the scheme and then we submitted the application. Thankfully the fund has been kind to us on a number of occasions.
“I absolutely believe the public feel safer and have more confidence in community safety and policing in the town. I think it makes a huge difference.”
Joanna was nominated for the commendation by Hornsea councillor Nick Cox. His submission included: “I personally believe it is important that people like Jo are recognised, not for doing her job, but for going above and beyond for the town and its residents.
“As a councillor I can go out, get a photo opportunity should I feel the urge, splash it all over social media or even contact the local paper. Jo just gets on with it without any fuss, praise or recognition.”
